A couple of hours from Arusha, Tarangire National Park is known for some of the largest elephant herds in Africa, moving through a landscape studded with giant, centuries-old baobab trees along the Tarangire River. This full-day trip is the easiest way to see the northern circuit's most photogenic park without an overnight stay. Elephant sightings are close to a sure thing, and during the dry season the river's permanent water draws heavy concentrations of other wildlife too.

Tarangire is best visited in the dry season, June to October, when the park's permanent river draws some of the highest wildlife concentrations in the region. The wetter months, November to May, bring greener scenery and strong birdlife, though animals spread out more widely across the landscape.
